Subject:Do You Get It?
Posted by:melkatharine.
Time:1:04 pm.
It is so hot, there, where you are
But not in the sexy, sweating way
More like suffocating humidity
Muggy, but not like coffee cups
Are just lying around everywhere

Isn’t it confusing that the language
We speak IS the subtext?
Multiple words with the same meaning
Multiple meanings for just one word

Grown-ups know that ‘pot’ is weed
Somehow the secret got let out
That kids weren’t after kitchenware

“How you doin’?” used to mean just that
Until Joey came along and spiced it up

The blank space between the lines
Is loaded with what doesn’t get said
Bursting at the metaphorical seams
With the words that don’t get printed

The bad parts are left out of the fairytales
They don’t tell you years can go by
Between having the dream; and living the dream

They sing about unrequited love
As if it is a good thing, so romantic!
Romantically depressing, and unnecessary

No one looks perfect when they wake up

No one mentions unfortunate sex noises
Why is that I wonder, is everyone embarrased?
Are we all too scared to admit
That we really aren’t perfect, and mean it?

Spaces between words aren’t spaces
They are breaths, for moments of contemplation
And when we don’t like what we realise
We put the book down and stop reading

It’s like metaphors were invented
Just for the purpose of confusion
I suppose that is the joy of code.

packrat

portraits and other things
swept
or kept away
in the back of a closet
or on the wall in the dark
basement

portraits and other things
like
your parent's wedding license
or a sheet of smelly yellowed paper
that describes a recipe for
blueberry pie filling

all this stuff piles up and one day
when you're stoned off your ass
from all the cough syrup and marijuana
you may have ingested throughout the day
maybe that day you decide to go through the
torn envelope edges and film negatives
(holding them up to the light and laughing
at the vague faces of people you probably
don't even know )you find the little
pieces of cardboard they stick in flowers
with generic phrases (dedicated to my
mother from my father) you find the mortgage
statements from 1991 when they first moved
us into this place and didn't have a thing to
their names

you find all this stuff in a cardboard box
all crowded together as if fighting for
the room to be remembered
you really wonder whether you should just
burn the box or at least recycle it
but you just put it back together in the
deep pit of a handy closet
and you can't explain why

Time:2:47 pm.
Hey everyone! I'm a college student, and I had to make a community for a class that I'm in. For my grade, I need as many people as possible to get involved and participate, but I also want to see how big I can get this community to be! It's a lot of fun and I just started it, so if you'd like to join, check it out!! Thanks so much, and sorry if this isn't allowed!

Mood:Misanthropic.
I touched my fingertips
To your cigarette ash skin;
Drifted
On concrete sidewalks like
Mud puddles never left alone
Dry leaves in the gutters
Streetlamp, curb
Sitting on the edge of your lap at
Midnight- bony fingers, skeleton
Thighs speak to me
Your ribs a cold steel
Walkway that I tiptoed
On, afraid to create a xylophone rhythm in
You distorted amplifier
Lungs.

I looked back
On my last cigarette butt
Tires, twigs, and brass ,
Ran my nails over the nail
That popped your tire,
Over your henna tattoo,
Over and over
And
Always pricking my fingers
On your spruce-needle
Eyelashes,
Electrode railroad spike,
Your progress
Seems like walking
Backwards.

I stopped mowing my
Lawn grew vegetables instead but even that
Felt like raping.
Your bark was too thick to
Let me seep into you
Via osmosis, but
Thin enough
To let the axes
In.

1957–1979

that sid vicious
i've got his number

(he's a little old for me)

as long as society is
keeping score

anarchy is a whirlwind that lasts
just as long as you do

they come along after
and clean up

tidy you
find your place
on the number line
measure your span

–1880

In Tombstone, there's a lot of graves
with expirations, but no due dates.

Lester Moore seems to have lived
forever before he died.

2006–

babies born today will
out-live us all

but somewhere
on a paper, in some drawer
or filing cabinet
an en dash is reaching out for
the fever that took her
the heart-attack
the routine surgery

Subject:Co-Worker
Posted by:rubyslippers01.
Time:10:33 am.
I must admit that,
until then
I had found her indifferent
yet somewhat mysterious
But somehow
We ended at a work function together
Me, and my co-worker.

During the night,
She looked at me
And said, “Let’s get plastered.”
And I began to grin stupidly.
Things were about to get interesting,
And of course I never turn down a drink.

So she took me to a Karaoke Bar
And it suddenly hit me
This woman was extremely attractive.
She threw off her jacket revealing
A tight, black slinky top
She let down her hair:
Long, thick, waving,
shining, brown hair
That cascaded down her shoulders
almost engulfing her
Contrasting beautifully with the darkness of her top.

She was stunning
Her eyes were soft and blue,
fringed with long, silky lashes.
Her eyes danced with mischief.

And then she began to drink.
And drink
And drink
And then she began to sing
And dance,
grinding to the music as it overtook her.

She began to gyrate like Madonna on methamphetamines
And every man in the bar turned
To stare at her
Jaws dropped open.
She smiled
And I smiled,
knowing that she was with me.

My co-worker is breath-takingly stunning,
Sensual & pure.
Looking at her knocked the wind clean out of me,
turning my stomach in knots of anticipation.

I thought to myself
How had I not seen it?
Had I been so blind?
Or had she simply been a master of disguise?
I saw that she was dangerous,
complicated & intelligant,
beautifully open to the world.

And she made me remember Mexico
When I was seven years old;
And how I found
A large,
perfect conch shell
In the surf.
I picked it up
I wanted to own it
But then suddenly
A long, glistening tentacle
Snaked out of the shell
In alarm, flailing in the air.
I dropped it with a gasp
Shocked and grateful
Moved to tears
Because I had discovered that
The teeming world is rich with secret life
None of which can be owned or known,
or even categorized
Because nothing is ever what it seems

It is better.

Subject:To the Person Who Stole All of My CD’s
Posted by:rubyslippers01.
Time:5:42 pm.
I hope you listened to them,
Really,
& didn’t just smash them or through them out
because they were all Tori,
Air, Nina, Billie,
Van, Pink Floyd;
Stills Young & Nash;
instead of crazed heavy metal drug fiend anthems.

And I wish you didn’t trade them to someone
or pawn them at `Cash Converters`
so you could get your next hit
of crystal meth or six pack of VB

Maybe you needed the money
for an operation for your child
in which case,
I hope she’s/he’s doing better
& wish her a speedy recovery
& prosperous life hereafter.

But I suspect that you are just a teenage punk
who saw an opportunity and took them
even though it is obviously not your kind of music
and cost me over $500 that was not reimbursable by either
the home nor the insurance polices that I don’t actually have.

Still,
I like to think of you crashed out in a blue beanbag
in your messy room,
upstairs in your parent’s house with my CD’s
plugging in your headphones.

I like to think you heard
songs you’d never even dreamt of before,
songs that you liked,
that inspired you somehow and made you feel
connected to me in a mysterious but important way.

And I hope that the cheesy Harry Connick ballads
and early Edith Piaff
made you think of the girl you loved once
in year eight.
The one with the long brown
ponytails and braces & skinny legs;
& how she kissed you once
behind the shelter shed
before end of term.

I hope you keep my CD’s in a special place
& listen to them whenever you’re feeling
sad or lonely
or like no one understands you
or when times are so hard that you feel only a thin,
fraying thread holding you to sanity and light.

I’m on the other end of that thread,
friend
my naughty little thief,
my song catcher
reaching my hand out
saying,
hold on
& listen,
this next song
reminds me of you.

Subject:Ass Crack
Posted by:rubyslippers01.
Time:11:00 pm.

You’ve never seen a sky so sapphire blue
Hot air balloons are taking off in your chest
The restaurant where you sit was built in 1952
The menu is so torn and stained that you think
it too must be from 1952

The biggest bowl of chips you’ve ever seen
costs only $3.50
& that seems cheap, it seems almost free
& you feel so giddy
that when you open up your mouth to speak,
you just keep grinning like a fool
& the only sound you can make is a squeak

The man waiting tables is rather fat
& he looks mean,
like he doesn’t give a damn about anything,
& as he passes, his pants are hung
so low that you can see virtually the entire
crack of his huge ass

You find it charming
You want to hug the grouchy man
You want to kiss him,
not because you love him,
but because the sight of the crack of his hairy ass
has brought such a surge of magic into your life,
an extra push of colour & vibrancy & pure, stark reality
into a landscape you thought would be forever peopled by
imaginary ghosts.

THANK YOU, chubby restaurant guy, you think,
for sharing the crack of your huge ass with the rest of us
THANK YOU for being so enchantingly, endearingly grumpy
THANK YOU for never once wishing you were Brad Pitt,
or Hugh Heffner
instead of just plain you,

& for the way you grunt when you slap the mop
into the dingy, murky water in the bucket,
for the fact that you wipe the tables with a rag that is
filthier than every other surface in this place,
& for the way you look right now,
captured in this instant,
scraping dried egg off of off-white plates.

Your lives both steered you somehow here,
& nothing could ever surpass the beauty of the way
his irritable eyes meet yours as he carries away your cutlery,
still slick with your saliva.

Breathe in deep that lovely fried food smell.
You are real
Anything is possible
Everything is probable
& fate & time &
all the bad luck & good luck
of our lives has sent us spinning
irrevocably each toward the other.
